They said, ' We're with you,' Well I was subpoenaed as a witness in the Poke boy's case, in his, the killing of that Mexican, shooting him in the back to rob him. I was there in Denver and I was astonished at the, what I call the weakness of that court. The evidence was there, and as soon as I got to Denver, the people found out that I was a witness for the prosecution, why I was just unpopular. I'd go there to that court and hear that evidence and come out and brought out, buy a Denver Post paper and it didn't give the evidence at all, it told a different story altogether. S: As a matter of fact, as I recall, my research in this area, they mostly had stories, supposedly saying they got story of his childhood. Now, evidently they got a serial running of him telling about his young days and all, and this was really probably made up by some Denver Post writer. Do you recall those? L: Yes, there's a man that wrote a book about it. I wrote to him. I've forgotten his name. I said, ' You were wrong, I know.' It made him angry. He had written a book entitled, The Last Indian War S: Forbes Park Hill? L: Yes. Well, he didn't know anything about it. I did, I lived here. I knew all about it, I looked down old Poke's gun barrel while he told me he would blow my head off if I didn't do so and so, |
