And the Indians here, in talking about having fish to eat always speak of going to Panguitch Lake for fish. That was all the- well, that was the name of the lake and the stream over there. That was where they got all their fish and dry their fish, sometimes they'd have enough to come back with for the fall and winter. C: Now, you mentioned in the first part of the first tape this Chief Petit- neet, where did he live with his group? M: He seemed to live north of Cedar in the area of Fiddlers Canyon. C: Would he be the same Petit- neet after who they named Petit-neet Creek up in Payson? M: He may have been. C: He would have come that far north, do you suppose, in his activities? M: Yes, it's very possible. There were several of the chiefs from here- I mean, several place names in this part of the country, named for chiefs further north. So, I think that's very possible that that could have been. C: Do you know what that name meant? M: No, I never heard that. I just don't know what that name |
