Show INTERVIEW: Jimmy Pete and Alva Matheson Page 5 P: Yes, just like hogans. M: Well, out here in these west hills, there's a lot of round circles, about eight feet in diameter, built up with rocks. Do you know what those were for? P: Where is that? M: It's right across from the city dump. P: Oh, yes, well, that used to be houses there. There was a lot of Indian graves there. M: I know there's graves along in the ledges. These circles are right up on top. P: Used to be houses on there long time ago. Where the warm, warm place. M: Well, I asked one Indian and he said, ' Oh, those are bath houses.' P: Bath houses? M: Yeah, he said they put lots of hot rocks in there and then get in and pour the water on them. P: Oh, yes, up on top, they're bath houses. They made that, too. I thought you said made way around. That's only about one man, about eight feet wide. M: Well, that's what most of these are. There's one about thirty feet across it. That must have been for a pow- wow or something like that. P: Just enough to get in there, just one man. They brought the |
