Image was scanned from color slide. Amanohashidate is a long sandbar located across Miyazu Bay on the Tango Peninsula in northern Kyoto Prefecture. Torii, which literally translates to bird perch is a gate usually found at the entrance to a Japanese Shinto shrine, or in some cases inside the shrine. Torii are considered the simplest way to identify a Shinto shrine. They are also sometimes found at the entrance to Japanese Buddhist temples. |
