Cell Phones on Campus Given the new cell phone policy, what is currently available and what will work best for you at the University of Utah. Technologies/Hardware: Dave Packham & Hang Wong Lots of different phones out there, but they can be boiled down into 2 groups. A: Can't write on screen. B: Can write on screen; usually a little larger (PDA- style phone). Some new cool phones now available. Technologies: EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) and EDGE. Some also have Wi-Fi capabilities. Windows, Blackberries, Palm all do high speed. Many providers don't allow tethering to force you to buy their data plan.
