Description |
Site of Cottrell system. THREE SYSTEMS: The original Cottrell system carried the smelter smoke through large pipes, from 12 to 16 inches in diameter through the center of each of which ran a chain, the chain and the pipe being the two sides of the 100,000 volt circuit. The smoke was passed through these flues and was acted upon by the current while so passing. In the new plant three separate electrical deposition systems are provided, one the pipe and chain system mentioned, the others being composed of chains, screens and plates, but operating on identically the same principle. These parts of the plant are somewhat in the nature of experiments to determine whether the less expensive form of construction is as effective as the original pipe and chain devise." |
