Digre, MD Meagan Seay, DO Neuro-Ophthalmology at American Academy of Ophthalmology 2020 Virtual W hen the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) converted its meeting to a fully virtual format, neuro-ophthalmologists rose to the challenge! The North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society–sponsored symposium, “A Practical Guide to Neuro-Ophthalmic Problems: When to Treat, and When to Refer!” was presented in a “simulive” format with several hundred attendees for the 45minute session that included live questions and answers and discussion with moderators Valerie Biousse, Prem Subramanian, and Paul Phillips. Session speakers included Tariq Bhatti (acute vision loss in a young patient), Sophia Chung (acute vision loss in an elderly patient), Kathleen Digre (headache and vision loss), Paul Phillips (new double vision), Karl Golnik (is this glaucoma or not?) and Melissa Ko (are the optic nerves swollen or normal?). There were 2 live events where viewers could ask questions of a neuro-ophthalmic panel: Fiona Costello and Michael Lee, and Collin McClelland presented “Ask Subramanian: J Neuro-Ophthalmol 2021; 41: e243 the Experts Live: Neuro-Ophthalmic Emergencies,” while John Chen moderated the Academy Café on NeuroOphthalmology featuring Valerie Biousse, Andrew Lee, Nancy Newman, and Prem Subramanian. An additional 7 instructional courses and a skills transfer laboratory on neuroimaging were presented on demand, as were 6 scientific articles and 17 posters. The neuro-ophthalmology sessions remained extremely popular with the virtual audience, and content remains available on the AAO meeting website until February 2021. Prem S.
