Date 2015-05
Description The goal of this project, part of the Power Industry Consortium, was to design a power system stabilizer for a small grid-connected three phase synchronous generator. Power System Stabilizers control the excitation of synchronous generators to reduce lowfrequency oscillations on the grid and increase overall power system stability. The power system stabilizer was simulated in Matlab Simulink and applied to a Motorsolver Dual-Fed Induction Generator in the lab. The dSPACE ControlDesk system was used in conjunction with a HiRel Systems Inverter board to control excitation current on the generator. The power system stabilizer was verified experimentally while the generator operated connected to the power grid, and tuning was done in accordance with guidelines from the Western Electricity Coordinating Council.
