Title Modern representation of female protagonists in media: An exploration of identity
Year graduated 2014
Date 2014-12
Description Coming from the perspective of a woman living in Utah, I have explored what it means to be an ambitious, yet lost individual in today's media. Over the course of one year I wrote a full-length screenplay that follows the journey of a woman who loses her sense of self and must find her way back by testing the confines of traditional gender roles. Although the subject matter may be serious, this screenplay is written with comedic intent. Throughout my thesis I attempt to understand the expectations placed upon women in American culture as well as discover how those expectations can be broken and make way for a new generation of female protagonists in the film medium.
