Description In consideration of the benefits of breastfeeding or human milk feeding (HM) and Bar- Coded Medication Administration (BCMA), along with the challenges inherent in those systems, this project seeks to identify behavior patterns and compliance with HM collections and administration policies. The primary goal at this stage is to develop an internal, automated report which will demonstrate compliance rates for scanning practices of both feeding products and patients, as well as the causes of non-compliance. Once this information is presented and understood, the nursing leadership team will determine if policies and workflows need to be redesigned to improve outcomes. To meet this goal, the project's objectives are to (1) describe the workflow as outlined in the organization policy documentation, and compare it to the workflow currently in use by staff in the units, (2) define quality and compliance metrics for monitoring processes associated with newborn feedings, (3) propose a visualization of the information and metrics for use by unit managers and service line leadership, and (4) define data requirements for the information to be displayed in the dashboard and for generating quality metrics.
