Title Design of a high precision desktop wire electrical discharge machine
Date 2010-08
Description This thesis discusses the design of a wire electrical discharge machine that is small enough to be deemed a desktop machine that achieves sub micron precision. It is capable of reliably running the smallest wire currently available to industry, which currently is 20 microns in diameter. The machine utilizes a novel wire setup system that greatly simplifies the stringing of the wire from the supply to the take-up spool. The machine is intended for production and to be used by industry as well as research. This was accomplished with a focus of creating a machine that is safe and easy to use.
