Description We live in a nation that values progress and prosperity. Capitalism is based on private or corporate investment and ownership to control the flow of goods and services. Not only is investment in the economic system important but reinvestment in our economy helps promote continued progress and success. These ideals have given our citizens the freedom to dream and create innovative companies, products, systems, buildings, and landscapes. We have always been a nation that looks forward to the future and new projects. Progress has helped our economy to stay strong and flexible in the changing world environment. The idea of progress can also bring negative aspects to our civilization. The search for wealth can cause citizens, corporations, and government to overlook and neglect certain parts of society. The American economy has become accustomed to ease of transportation and supply lines. Goods and services can travel large distances across the country to consumers who demand particular products. People do not know or may take for granted where the products they are purchasing were created and how far they have traveled.
