Title Experiences of Japanese American mixed race young adults: a study of identity formation
Date 2005-05
Description This study examines the experiences of Japanese American mixed race young adults and the effects that being mixed race has had on their identity formation. Specifically, it addresses how being mixed race affected other aspects of their lives, such as family, social relationships, school, and self-esteem. Using a qualitative study, seven mixed-race young adults were asked to answer a series of questions in a semi-structured interview. The results of the study indicated that students did not encounter significant health or emotional setbacks due to their mixed race identity. Rather, respondents voiced their unique experiences and showed that over time, they have come to view their mixed race heritage as a positive aspect of their lives.
