Title Walsh & Hoyt: Complications Associated With Pseudopapilledema and Disc Drusen
Creator Michael C. Brodsky, MD
Affiliation Mayo Health System
Subject Drusen Complications
Description Peripheral visual field defects develop in 71-75% of eyes with disc drusen (460,471,476,477,495,530). In most cases, the asymptomatic nature of the defects reflects the insidious attrition of optic nerve fibers over decades. Nevertheless, a minority of patients experience episodes of sudden, step-like visual field loss (77,460,476,477). Mustonen (477) found visual field defects in 38.9% of eyes with pseudopapilledema and 73.4% of eyes with visible drusen.
