Description Sarcoidosis is treated, whenn ecessary, primarily with corticosteroids. Ocular disease oftenrespon ds to topical medication, although some patients with proliferative retinopathy may require photocoagulation. Orbital, systemic, and neurologic disease usually require systemic medication. The major problem intreatin g sarcoidosis is indecidin g whento treat, because the disease clears spontaneously without residua in so many patients. Indeed, cases of spontaneous recovery of acute sarcoid optic neuropathy and granulomatous infiltration of the optic disc have been reported.
