Description The optic chiasm is a commissure formed by converging optic nerves anteriorly and diverging optic tracts posteriorly (Fig. 1.38). During development, the chiasmal anlage separates from the floor of the third ventricle, maintaining contact only at the boundary between its posterior aspect and the anterior-inferior wall of the third ventricle.
