Description Lesions in the optic tract or along the thalamocortical pathway cause a homonymous hemianopia. Irreversible retrochiasmal damage may lead to optic atrophy. As the macular area is overrepresented in the afferent visual system, a retrochiasmal lesion may be best detected at the level of the macula. We sought to determine the anatomic changes of the macular ganglion cell layer in patients with retrochiasmal lesions.
