Description We recently developed a photothrombotic model of optic neuropathy in rodents using mesoporphyrin IX as the photosensitizer. While originally considering similar laser parameters for both rats and mice, our experiments showed that the optic nerve (ON) response to the photodynamic treatment applied was very different between the two species. We present here some of the challenges faced, especially when trying to set up this model in mice.
