Description pain associated with ophthalmoplegia may be a sign of a lesion in the orbit or in the region of the orbital apex, the superior orbital fissure, the cavernous sinus, or the retro-cavernous area. The signs and symptoms of the syndrome vary slightly depending on the area affected. Therefore a study of the clinical picture will often pinpoint the anatomical site involved, ultimately establishing the etiologic cause.
