Title The Treatment of Thyroid Ophthalmopathy
Creator Norman J. Schatz, M.D., Bascom Palmer Eye Institute
Subject Thyroid Ophthalmopathy; Treatment; Heart Failure; Graves' Disease; Lid Retraction; Diplopia
Description Parry, in his writings of 1825, described seven patients who developed signs of heart failure without evidence of heart disease. Parry associated their heart failure with a "bronchocele of the thyroid" which was present in each of his patients. Interesting also was his recognition that his first patient, seen in 1786, exhibited a "remarkable extrusion of the globes from the socket".
