Subject Chronic Papilledema; Extracranial Venous Compromise; Nonsimultaneous Bilateral Radical; Optic Nerve Sheath Incision
Description We studied a 56 year old male who had nonsimultaneous bilateral radical neck dissections for carcinoma of the epiglottis who noted progressive visual deterioration in the four months after his second surgery. Eye examinations, flourescein angiograms, and visual fields were obtained. The visual defects were progressing so an optic nerve sheath incision was performed. The vision improved some postoperatively and was stable or improved at one and five year follow up.
