Title The Wing Sign
Creator Stephen F. Johnson, MD
Subject Wing Sign; General Neurology Practice; Persistent Abduction of the Arm; Flexion of the Forearm; Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
Description In the past 8 years of general neurology practice, I have seen three patients who presented with a prominent "wing sign" (persistent abduction of the arm at the shoulder and flexion of the forearm at the elbow) on one side. All three were over 65 years of age. They had associated gait disturbance and rigidity to suggest an extrapyramidal disorder. CT scans and other evaluation were nondiagnostic. None of the patients responded well to Sinemet therapy.
