| Description |
Cluster headache is a specific headache syndrome usually occurring in men. It is characterized by a unilateral headache, lasting 15-60 minutes, associated frequently with ipsilateral lacrimation, rhinorrhea and ptosis. It was first described by Romberg in 1840 but not fully recognized as a specific headache syndrome until 1939 when Horton produced the most accurate description. In 1952, E.C. Kunkle named the syndrome "cluster headache" and this is the name that has been adopted by the Ad Hoc Committee in 1962 and the World Federation of Neurology in 1969. |
