Subject Foveal Flicker Fusion Frequency; Optic Nerve; Clinical Testing; Electrophysiologic Testing
Description Foveal flicker fusion frequency is a psychophysical test of visual temporal resolution. It is a test that is easy to perform, inexpensive, and it gives reproducible results. Although electrophysiologic tests have gained favor in clinical testing, foveal flicker fusion frequency is still a useful clinical tool. We found a high correlation between foveal flicker fusion frequency and pattern reversal visual evoked potential latency in patients with optic neuritis (r-.8, p < 0.001) and in patients with other optic neuropathies (r-.7, p<0.05). Foveal flicker fusion frequency correlated very well with visual evoked potential latency in patients with optic neuropathy.
