Title Checking for a Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect
Creator H. Stanley Thompson, MD, University of Iowa
Subject Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect Diagnosis; Consensual Dilation; Pseudo-Anisocoria; Relative Afferent Pupillary Defect Measurement
Description When, in a dark room, the light is moved quickly from the good eye to the bad eye, you see a relatively weak pupillary constriction for two reasons; a) there is less pupillomotor input from the bad eye, and b) the sphincter now has to overcome the tendency of the pupils to dilate because the light has just been taken away from the good eye.
