Title How to Prepare Dilute Pilocarpine
Creator Slavin, Michael L
Subject Dilute Pilocarpine; Denervation Supersensitivity; Adie's Syndrome; Bacteriostatic Water
Description Dilute pilocarpine solutions are used to prove denervation supersensitivity in cases of Adie's syndrome. Various concentrations (e.g. 0.0625%, 0.1 %, 0.125%) have been suggested, but the precise solvent to be used in preparations have not been addressed. A solution sought would constrict an abnormal pupil but constrict only slightly a normal pupil. A 0.1% pilocarpine solution was prepared with solvents of methylcellulose, saline, and bacteriostatic water i.e. p(m), p(s) and p(w) respectively.
