Title Required Ocular Motor Conditions for Visual Constancy
Creator Louis F. Dell'Osso
Subject Visual Constancy; Ocular Motor Instability; Congenital Nystagmus; Oscillopsia
Description We have been studying visual constancy in the presence of ocular motor instability in individuals with congenital nystagmus (CN). They normally suppress the oscillopsia (OSOP) that usually accompanies acquired nystagmus; we have also studied two who did experience OSOP under different circumstances. We hypothesized that the ability to suppress OSOP in CN is the result of normal perceptual mechanisms acting to interpret the retinal Image motion caused by the oscillation and that by understanding the requirements for visual constancy in these cases we could infer those required in normals or in those with acquired nystagmus.
