Description Head trauma is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in our country and the world. Epidemiologic data show that the incidence of significant head trauma is between 193 to 403 per 100,000 individuals. Although the major cause of closed head injury in our country is transport related (motor vehicle accidents), falls, assault and sports injury also cause it. The estimated cost of closed head injury in this country is 25-30 billion dollars. Neuro-ophthalmologists frequently are called upon to not only assess damage to the optic nerves, other cranial nerves, brain stem but also visual changes related directly or indirectly to damage to the brain.
