Title Wilbrand's Knee of the Optic Chiasm is an Artefact of Long-Term Monocular Enucleation
Creator Jonathan C. Horton, MD, UCSF Medical Center
Subject Wilbrand's Knee; Optic Chiasm; Long-Term Monocular Enucleation; Contralateral Optic Nerve
Description Wilbrand's Knee of the optic chiasm refers to a bundle of optic nerve fibers that detours briefly into the contralateral optic nerve before crossing over into the optic tract. In cases of optic neuropathy from a lesion just anterior to the optic chiasm, injury to Wilbrand's Knee is thought to explain the superior temporal hemianopia in the other eye.
