Title A Comparison of Multifocal Visual Evoked Potentials to Field Defects Due to Optic Neuropathy
Creator Donald C. Hood; Xian Zhang; Jeffrey G. Odel
Subject Multifocal Visual Evoked Potentials; Field Defects; Optic Neuropathy; Glaucoma; Ischemic Optic Neuropathy; Optic Neuritis
Description The multifocal technique allows for the simultaneous recording of 60 visual evoked responses (mVEP) each tied to stimulation of a local region of the field.1,2 If the set of mVEP responses obtained from monocular stimulation of both eyes is compared, then local monocular damage to the ganglion cells or optic nerve can be quantified.3 Objective To compare changes in mVEP responses to defects identified with Humphrey visual fields in patients with optic nerve damage secondary to glaucoma, ischemic optic neuropathy (ION), or optic neuritis (ON).
