Description Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) occurs predominantly in young, obese women. Weight loss of as little as 6% of total body weight may alleviate symptoms of IIH, yet many seemingly motivated patients are unable to lose weight evenwith sustained effort. Ghrelin, a gastric hormone, is involved in normal body weight and appetite regulation; its levels are elevatedin syndromes of overeating. In simple obesity, ghrelin levels are expected to decline.
