Title Seeing With Less: Image Compression at the Retinogeniculate Synapse
Creator Horton, Jonathan; Sharpee, Tatyana; Sincich, Lawrence
Subject retinal ganglion cell; lateral geniculate nucleus; information theory; temporal integration; EPSP
Description The lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) must be more than a simple relay station, but how it transforms retinal signals bound for striate cortex is not well understood. To address this issue, single retinal ganglion cell fibers were recorded simultaneously with LGN neurons, to monitor both the input and output across the retinogeniculate synapse.
