Description History: A 70-year-old woman who presented with a six month history of proptosis of the right eye without functional deficit. Anatomy: Zygoma; Lacrimal Gland; Lacrimal Apparatus. Disease Diagnosis: Adenoma, Pleomorphic. Pathology: Fine needle aspiration biopsy of the lesion because of its atypical clinical presentation showing a 100x magnification of the pleomorphic adenomatous cells which are benign in an acid mucopolysaccharide stain, differentiating it from a lymphoid lesion or an Adenoid Cystic carcinoma. The hematoxylin and eosin stain of the pleomorphic adenomatous cells in the right lacrimal adenoma. No evidence of malignant cells. Presenting Symptom: Proptosis of the right eye without functional deficit. Neuroimaging: Axial CT scan showing a lesion above and temporal to the right globe, slight erosion of the bone of the distal zygoma. A mass in the right superior orbit with some molding of the tumor near the globe which is atypical of pleomorphic adenoma. Treatment: Surgical removal of lesion.
