Title Creating a Sustainable Multifaceted Approach to Improve Incentive Spirometry (IS) Use in a Cardiovascular ICU
Creator Lander, Kirsten E., BSN, RN, CCRN
Description This project developed a multifaceted approach to improve IS use by measuring the number of patients with IS, number of IS sessions, location of IS, and the patient's ability to correctly use IS. Results demonstrated a statistically significant increase in number of patients using IS and the number of IS sessions. Location of IS and patient ability to correctly use IS also increased, but not to a statistically significant level. The project demonstrates a successful start in determining if IS improves pulmonary function and decreases pulmonary complications by increasing IS usage.
