The Effective Management of Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension by Group Consultation

Patient reviews for Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) can take time, as this may include discussions on vision assessment and papilledema, symptom management, and weight loss [1]. Careful monitoring with the ability to offer urgent appointments in response to worsening symptoms, is important to manage the risk of visual loss and debilitating headaches. Over the past 7 years we built a comprehensive multidisciplinary service that facilitates lifestyle measures for weight- and headache-management. The service demands continued to grow, such that clinics were heavily overbooked with long waits. We describe the outcome of introducing group consultations (GC), shown elsewhere to be an effective, person-centred approach in healthcare[2], for our patients with IIH
