The primary purpose of this qualitative research study was to discover what individual adults; learn by attending a drag performance, specifically from the audience's perspective, through their experience and comprehension of an engaged performance and the meaning-making which occurs post-performance. Eight participants over the age of 21, attended a live drag performance at a venue, located in a small religiously conservative city, located in the Intermountain West. While other studies have focused on how drag queens utilize their skills in performance and storytelling to advocate adult learners towards activism and social justice and to promote equity for the LQBTQ+ community, this study focuses on the experiences of the participants, specifically, their reflection of their lived experiences, learning and personal actions to be taken in response to being an audience member at a drag performance. |
