Title Flexible Sensing for Pressure Ulcer Detection and Prevention
Date 2020
Description Pressure ulcers are a common and harmful ailment among those who use a wheelchair for extended lengths of time. Periodic pressure relief actions performed by the wheelchair user have been shown to reduce the occurrence of pressure ulcers, but these actions may not be completed correctly or regularly enough to be e#11;ective due to a variety of environmental and personal reasons. Real-time technology interven- tions based on time, location, pressure, and user history, among others, may encourage the user to perform e#11;ective pressure relief actions. The research team aims to realize this potential solution via an on-chair data acquisition and transmission system, in combination with an intelligent data analysis and user noti#12;cation tool. This paper details the background, design, implementation, trial, and future exploration of the on-chair tilt sensing system.
