Men finished 4th overall and women finished 3rd overall. Senior Amy Tidwell placed first in the 400 meter event (53.26), second in the 200 (24.53) and another second place finish in the long jump (19'11.50"). Tidwell will compete in the 400 meters and the long jump at the NCAA outdoor championships June 2-5. Senior Stacey Rhineer placed first in the triple jump (41'08.50") as did sophomore Mindy Romig in the javelin throw (136'10.00"). Sophomore Chantel Goldsberry finished second in the hammer throw (170'07.00"), Elisha Kekacs placed third in the 100 meter high hurdles (14.47), and Audrey Kiser was third in the shot put (41'09.29"). The men's "team" competed in distance events only. Utah does not officially maintain a men's track and field team. In the 800 meter event, Jeff Simonich placed fourth (1:52.96) and Adam Stark placed eighth (1:55.91). Chris Merkley was fifth (3:58.55) and Travis Hildebrand seventh (4:02.01) in the 1,500 meters. Dane Miller placed second (15:17.63) in the 5,000 meters with Lion Gallegos placing fifth (16:06.86). Sophomore Erik Vernon had a third place finish in the 3,000 meter steeple chase (9:24.97). |
