Final Score DAY ONE: Utah's Travis Hildebrand was named the Mountain West Conference 5,000 meter indoor champion on Friday as the senior pulled away in the last lap of the race to win with a time of 15:09.29. Senior Johanna Nielsen placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:54.74. Brooke Babbitt placed 11th (19.28:54). Audrey Kiser (55' 1.50"), Chantel Goldsberry (54' 4.75") and Alisha Worthley (49' 6.50") placed seventh, eighth and 12th, respectively, in the weight throw. Erianne Allen placed fifth in the pentathlon (3,533) and Kristy Slade finished ninth (3,180). Slade also placed 12th in the long jump (17' 2.00") and Catherine Scalley finished 14th (17' 0.50"). The men's distance relay team placed third with a time of 10:33.44. The women's team is in sixth place after two days of competition with 16 points and the men are in fifth place also with 16 points. DAY TWO: Chris Merkley and Teren Jameson won their races, bringing Utah's total to three, including Travis Hildebrand's win in the 5,000 meter event on Friday. Merkley won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:34.59, defending Utah's title from a year ago when Jeff Simonich won the event, and sophomore Teren Jameson won the mile race with a time of 4:14.60. The triple sweep of the men's distance events earned Hildebrand, Merkley and Jameson all-conference honors. Senior Elisha Kekacs placed sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.70 and improved her school record in the 60- meter hurdles from 9.03 to 8.88. Johanna Nielsen finished fifth in the 3,000 meters, running the race in 10:26.15 seconds. Nielsen was also named all-conference for her third place finish (17:54.74) in the 5,000 meters on Friday. Audrey Kiser placed fifth in the shot put with a throw of 48' 1.75" which set a new school record. Erianne Allen placed fifth in the pentathlon (3,533) and Kristy Slade finished ninth (3,180). Slade also placed 12th in the long jump (17' 2.00") and Catherine Scalley finished 14th (17' 0.50"). Allen had personal bests in all five pentathlon events. She now ranks third in the pentathlon on Utah's all-time top-performance list. Overall, Utah came away from the conference championships with 20 new personal bests. The women's team placed fourth in the mile relay (3:54.90) and sixth in the distance medley (13:03.38) while the men's team finished third in the distance medley (10:33.44). Overall, the women's team placed seventh and the men fifth in the conference.
