I I G E N E R A L IN FO R M A T IO N American Flame Research Committee In te rn a tio n a l S y m p o s iu m In d u stria l P ro c e s s C o m b u s tio n T e c h n o lo g y The American Flame Research Committee is one of eight worldwide national committees and associate members from four additional countries affiliated with the International Flame Research Foundation headquartered in IJmuiden, The Netherlands. T h e purpose of AFRC Symposia is to provide a focal point for communication of current research activities and to provide a forum for industry to express common needs as input to the extent and direction of future research. This Symposium focuses specifically on industrial process combustion. The Clean Air Act and the national need for energy conservation impact the industrial process sectors in the same manner as the utility and industrial boiler sectors, but the impact is not as widely discussed. Process limitations not experienced in boiler combustion technology present unique challenges to those who must deal with these impacts. The papers evaluate international efforts in R&D, practical applications, and interaction of burner design, fuel type, combustion modifications, and process requirements. Newport Beach is located in Orange County situated between Los Angeles and San Diego. The Symposium is at the Marriott Hotel in Newport Center amidst shops, restaurants, the financial and professional heart of the area. The area abounds with things to do and places to go. Tours can be arranged to see Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Lion Country Safari, the mission of San Juan Capistrano-all within twenty miles of your hotel. Newport has an art gallery, neighboring play houses, picturesque shop­ ping areas such as Balboa Island.
