Utah senior Johanna Nielsen won the 5k race (18:18) at the ASU Invitational on Friday for her second win of the season. The No.19 ranked Utah men's team placed second overall in the 8k race with Tavis Hildebrand (25:13) and Chris Merkley (25:32) placing third and fourth, respectively. The Utah men had eight top 50 finishers out of a field of 138 runners. The men's team placed ahead of the No. 17 Arizona State and Division II No. 1 Adams State College and No. 9 UC Davis. Teren Jameson placed ninth (25:50) followed by Adam Stark (26:42) in 25th place, Lion Gallegos (26:55) in 28th place and Mike Strauss placing 33rd (27:06). Chris Gartz (27:46) and Phil Stoddard (27:49) placed 49th and 50th respectively. The women's team placed sixth overall with Daisy Freedman placing 32nd (19:52) and Trina Bateman finishing 33rd (19:56) for Utah. Julie Osguthorpe finished 48th followed by Lauren Bateman placing 68th (21:39). |
