Title Inhibition of glutamate carboxypepptidase II protects retinal ganglionic cell death induced by ischemia-reperfusion in rat

Subject Optic Neuropathy
Description Excessive glutamate receptor activation is thought to be involved in retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death after ischemia- reperfusion damage. Glutamate carboxypeptidase II (GCPII) is an enzyme responsible for the hydrolysis of the neurotransmitter NAAG (N-acetyl-aspartyl-glutamate) to N-acetyl-aspartate and glutamate. Thus, in this study, we examined the effect of 2-(phosphonomethyl) pentanedioic acid (2-PMPA), a GCPII inhibitor, on RGC survival after acute high IOP ischemia-reperfusion damage.
