Description Sepsis is most recently described as a "life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection." Sepsis is a leading cause of death of patients in the hospital. Patients with cancer are at increased risk of morbidity and mortality from sepsis. Studies have shown that delays in antibiotic therapy are associated with increased risk of death.
