Description Approximately 2.7-3.9 million people in the United States have chronic Hepatitis C Virus (HCV). The incidence of HCV in Utah is 51.1 per 100,000 in 2014: comparable to the national average. HCV is most common in patients born between 1945-1965.. The CDC recommends a one-time screening for HCV infection in patients born between 1945-1965. New medications for HCV are better tolerated than prior treatments. HCV infected patients can safely be treated in primary care clinics with specialist expertise. Conclusion: Efforts to increase HCV screening in our clinics continue. Thanks to a well-established HCV Project ECHO (Extension for Community Health-Care Outcomes) program run by the Department of Hepatology, residents are now treating HCV infected patients in our clinics.
