Description Scrapbook compiled by Alan K. Engen containing materials illustrative of the history of skiing (mainly in Utah) during the years 1940 through 1946. Includes photographs, documents, newspaper and magazine articles about ski jumping, tournaments, and ski resorts in Utah, Idaho, and elsewhere, especially Alta, Ecker Hill, Sun Valley, and Jackson, and tracks the career of Alf Engen as skier, Olympic ski coach, and ski instructor, including the start in 1949 of the Deseret News Ski School where he and brother Sverre were teachers. Also covered are the careers of Suzy Harris, Gretchen Fraser, Pat Kearnes, and Jack Reddish; the history of ski huts in Utah; the Winter Olympics at St. Moritz, Switzerland; the death of Einar Fredbo; Frank Howard's ski movies; and the homes the Engen brothers built in Salt Lake County. Tying the book together are detailed historical notes composed by Alan K. Engen.
