Final Score Becoming the first Utah athlete to compete in a running event at the Pac-12 Conference Championships, junior Amanda Mergaert had the day off to a great start as she qualified for the final round in the 1500m. Competing in the first heat, Mergaert finished third in the group and seventh overall with a time of 4:22.97. Her performance qualifies for the final round, which will be ran on Sunday. In the 800m, Rosalie Griffin qualified for the final round on Sunday with a sixth-place performance. Griffin earned second in her heat setting a personal-best time of 2:08.98. Freshmen Andrea Chavez (2:11.58) and Ali Eisenbeiss (2:11.93) finished 15th and 16th places respectively for the Utes. The 100m hurdles featured junior Angela Kaplar getting off to a good start. Kaplar fired out of the blocks and looked very solid over the first four hurdles, however she clipped the fifth hurdle costing valuable time. She would end up finishing with a time of 14.06 seconds for 13th, falling shy of qualifying for the final round. Stephanie Jolley has continued to impress this season as she has improved in every race throughout the second half of the outdoor season. Saturday was no exception; Jolley clocked a new career-best 400m hurdles time of 58.73 seconds finishing third in her heat. Jolley's performance earned seventh overall and qualified her for the finals on Sunday. Junior Anneli Stahl got the Utes off to a solid start in the women's hammer throw. After recording a foul on her first throw, Stahl posted her best mark of 173-6 feet on the second attempt capturing 11th place overall. Teammate Nikkie Rudder threw a top mark of 165-0 feet on her first attempt finishing 14th in the event. In the shot put, two Utah athletes qualified for the final round. Nikkie Rudder finished first for the Utes and seventh overall with a throw of 46-2.50 feet earning two team points. Candus Aiello posted an eighth-place performance with a mark of 45-8.50 feet capturing one team point. Rudder and Aiello become the first Utah athletes to score team points in throwing events. The 400m dash showcased Lauryn McKay earning fourth in her heat and 20th overall with a time of 56.17 seconds. Freshman Kaitlin Urmston led the team in the javelin throw. Urmston posted her top mark on the first attempt with a throw of 135-2 feet. Her mark earned 11th overall. Struggling last week in the javelin throw during the heptathlon, Senior Brianna LeRoy improved by seven feet on Saturday recording a throw of 115-8 feet for 19th place. LeRoy also led the team in the women's long jump. Qualifying for the final round, LeRoy finished the day in eighth with a jump of 19-7 feet on her third attempt. With her performance, LeRoy earned one team point, bringing her total to three team points thus far at the Pac-12 Conference Championships. At the end of competition on Saturday, the Utes are in 10th place with six team points. Leading the pack is the University of Oregon with 46 points. University of Utah women's track and field team tied for tenth place with 21 points. Senior Brianna LeRoy led the way capturing nine points for the Utes. Destanae Howerton-Davis got the Utes off to a great start in the first event of the day. Howerton-Davis qualified for the finals in the women's discus beating her previous PR by over seven feet recording a mark of 161-2 feet. Her performance earned eighth place and gave the Utes one team point setting the tone for day. In the final round of the 1500m, junior Amanda Mergaert ran close to her season-best performance, clocking a time of 4:22.88. Coming down the final 100m stretch of the race, Mergaert was in ninth, however she was able to pass two runners on that stretch to finish seventh overall and give the team two points. Senior Brianna LeRoy continued to showcase her veteran experience for the Utes. LeRoy cleared the mark of 5-8.50 feet in the high jump. Her mark finished third place giving the team six points. Throughout the meet, LeRoy earned the Utes nine points and became the first Utah athlete to earn Pac-12 All-Conference honors for her performance in the high jump. The only senior competing at the conference meet for the Utes, LeRoy left her mark in school history becoming the first athlete to earn team points and all-conference honors. The 800m featured Rosalie Griffin setting a new PR in back-to-back days. Coming off a great performance on Saturday, Griffin continued that momentum into the final round on Sunday capturing seventh with a time of 2:08.80 earning the Utes one team point. Junior Stephanie Jolley represented the Utes in the 400m hurdle finals after qualifying on Saturday. Jolley crossed the line in a time of 59.47 for seventh earning the team one point. Freshman Susannah Hurst made her first appearance at an outdoor conference championship meet in the women's 5000m. Slowly moving up throughout the race, Hurst finished in a time of 17:18.34 earning 18th overall. Closing out the day for the Utes was the 4x400m relay. Lauryn McKay, Alyssa Johnson, Ali Eisenbeiss, and Jolley ran in the first heat earning second place with a combined time of 3:41.12. Overall the relay finished seventh edging out the University of California who finished eighth with a time of 3:42.51. The Utes as a team finished the meet with 21 points tied for tenth with the University of California. The overall winner was Oregon with 200.50 points.
