Skiing has been around for hundreds of years and snowboarding has been around for the last 50. However, helmets have only been gaining in popularity and use in the last several decades. High Profile celebrity deaths have brought attention to this issue; however there still exists some push back with regard to their use. The objective of this review was to determine barriers to helmet use in skiing and snowboarding, as well as explore the impact of mandating helmet use. Helmet testing standards and recommendations for the best helmets was also explored. |
