Description The rates of women interacting with the criminal justice system are increasing steadily yet little is known about the experiences of these women within the system as well as the latent effects that follow them throughout their lives. With a sociological perspective, one comes to understand the immense impact of experiences, inequities, and health/wellness/opportunity disparities in individual's lives-especially during and postincarceration. These projects take a mixed-methods feminist perspective/approach to women's interaction with the corrections system. Family Planning and Incarceration Project: An academic and political endeavor to pass legislation in Utah requiring correctional facilities to provide family planning information and services to the incarcerated population. Based on a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed articles to recommend the most evidence-based, scientifically supported programs and services for successful family planning programs in Utah correctional facilities. Incarcerated Community Sexual Health Educator: In order to gain unique insight/perspective on the incarcerated women's experience-for the past year, I have become a community/sexual health educator for the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah within the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. The women are asked to complete a pre and post-test provided by Planned Parenthood as to evaluate the curriculum's effectiveness and incarcerated individuals' sexual health literacy. Through those evaluations, educator's observation and collected qualitative data of the women's experiences while incarcerated, paired with literature reviews expanding on sexual health while Incarcerated Community Sexual Health Educator: In order to gain unique insight/perspective on the incarcerated women's experience-for the past year, I have become a community/sexual health educator for the Planned Parenthood Association of Utah within the Salt Lake County Metro Jail. The objective of these projects is to create a sociological review of women's experience within the criminal justice system in the greater Salt Lake area.
