Illnesses related to oral health are by far the most preventable illness in the United States, yet it is the leading cause of poor health in young children. Tooth decay is quietly affecting 3 out of every 5 children across the US, and those from low-income families or families who speak English as a second language are even more vulnerable than the rest of the population. That is why this oral hygiene presentation service project was created, to help get young students to start thinking and working toward good oral health. The presentation will be teaching the students about how to choose better food, how to brush correctly, and other knowledge's that promote good oral health behavior. Students also receive a brochure about oral health to bring to their parents, English and Spanish versions of the brochure are available for students to choose. After the presentation, a small Q&A session will follow, to assure that as much of the uncertainties are being address as possible. In conclusion, students seem more enthusiastic about achieving and maintaining good oral health, because they now better understand of the consequences if they don't keep their teeth clean. The approach of using a lot of pictures and images in the presentation work really well, follow up observation and interaction have shown that students attains more information for a longer period of time versus a presentation with more words. |
