The integration of voice and data using the FDDI protocol

Technological breakthroughs in microchip production over the past decade have made small, powerful processors and their peripherals very affordable. The result has been an explosion of computerization in almost every aspect of life. Both at home and in the work place, personal computers have rapidly gained widespread use. Despite the ever-increasing power of these small computers, individual users still need to share resources such as printers, data bases, and mainframes. The concept of a local area network has evolved from this need to exchange information quickly and efficiently among users who are concentrated in a small geographical area.
